Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This wonderful 10” LP – one of the supreme piano rarities – from Ducretet Thomson (L.P. 8518, French pressing, white/gray label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features legendary pianist Lazare-Levy in magnificent performances of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas No. 10 in C Major K. 330 and No. 11 in A Major K. 331, both warmly recorded in the fine acoustics of the Ancien Conservatoire, Paris, on 7 October 1955.

There is nothing of the “Dresden China” approach to Mozart in Lazare-Levy’s playing, which is imbued with great zest, a pellucid joy, and beautiful tonal refinement. What a pity he did not record more . The sound engineering is first rate, not balanced too closely, and in a warm acoustic, his bell-like tone registering perfectly.

There are eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Roger Cotte, provided in French only, as well as a listing of other Mozart titles in Ducretet-Thomson’s “Selmer” series.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

This LP is exactly as I have described it. If you cannot live with the faults listed below, then please do not buy this LP.

Jacket:

The condition of the sturdy cardboard jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, more so at corners, aging, shelfwear, and discoloration (more so to the rear panel, where there is also a small tear, visible in the photo provided.

However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the jacket remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

Vinyl:

The condition of the LP is VERY GOOD. Visually, there are some (non-sounding) marks, as well as faint spindle trails and some wear around the spindle hole.

In terms of sound, although there is light surface noise throughout, in general the playback remains very fine. There are 2 tics in the slow movement of K. 330 and 2 tics in the slow movement of K. 331, but that is all. Again, there is surface noise – not at a high level, but audible (more so in K. 331). Those wanting a flawless, NM, or EX copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
