LED ZEPPELIN I

The original (April) 1969, truly the earliest UK first pressing of Led Zeppelin I with very rare turquoise-text front cover (see photos) and 'Superhype’ label credits, A1//B1 vinyl pressing ident and the plum-plus-red Atlantic Labels.

The turquoise text (for "Led Zeppelin" and the Atlantic logo) and "Superhype" credits were replaced within weeks by the version with orange sleeve text and Warner label credits that are more often for sale.

This is an extremely rare item - check Google- hence the realistic starting price.

Excellent condition (see photos). This specimen has always being played with a quality, low mass, hi-fi pick-up and ‘wet’ (pure alcohol-water mix and soft brush during every play). This care has maintained the highest quality for this LP over nearly 40 years. There are no skips or pops; the hiss and crackle associated with worn - or simply old - vinyl has virtually been avoided. Apart from a virgin copy, this has to be as good as it gets for sound quality. This pressing was in heavyweight vinyl and this specimen has remained perfectly flat. This example still shines; no ‘crazing’ or loss of sheen (see photos). A ‘turquoise’ as good as this was last seen on Ebay in Jan 2007.

It is a valuable piece of rock memorabilia. I’ll pack this authentic heirloom (mine!) with greatest care for dispatch and insure it suitably.

The plum-and-red (‘orange’ some call it) Atlantic Record labels are in excellent condition. (My first name is written very small on the Side 2 label – I had flat mates to avoid!)

The main LP sleeve is clean and fresh (at 38 years old!) with no significant defects. One small (2cm long), narrow (2mm wide) ‘lift’ of coating is just visible on the front (within the black print of the zeppelin image). No tears anywhere. The edges, corners, back and front of the cover are clean, bright, sharp, smooth and flat. No discolouring or scuffing. This thing has aged far better than me.

The inner sleeve is the authentic polythene-lined UK version. No grubbiness, one very small tear plus small, a neat, small signature (of mine) top-left (the flat mates again!) and dated “April 1969” (genuine!). The inner sleeve opening has ‘aged’, showing rusty red streaking inside for an inch right across. Apart from these points, and the usual creasing, the inner sleeve is good.
