In this auction:

• “BLACK DOG” b/w “BLACK DOG” by Led Zeppelin

• This is Atlantic Records 2849.

• It is a PROMOTIONAL ISSUE.

• The MONO (Monaural) side has a Red and White Label.

• The STEREO side has a Red and Blue Label.

• Both labels have the following printing on them:

  • PROMOTION COPY

  • NOT FOR SALE

  • EDITED SHORT VERSION (with a 3:50 running time)

• As you probably know, PROMOTIONAL (PROMO) RECORDS were produced in VERY SMALL QUANTITIES and were sent by the record companies to radio stations and DJs to use for on-air play. They were NOT available for sale to the public. Often, DJs wrote on the labels and/or placed stickers on them, and these promo records were often withdrawn from use and/or trashed after a period of time. Due to their small quantities produced and unavailability to the public, they have come to be VERY DESIRABLE to many vinyl collectors and/or fans of the bands.

• This PROMOTIONAL SINGLE was most likely issued in October or early November of 1971 to promote the band’s new LP, released November 8, 1971, that was officially untitled, represented by four symbols, and has come to be identified as “Led Zeppelin IV” or “ZOSO”.

• In 2004 the song “Black Dog” was included at number 294 on the “Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of all Time” list, but changed in 2020 to number 300.

• This LED ZEP PROMO SINGLE is in NEAR MINT (NM) CONDITION. The LABELS are NICE and CLEAN with NO writing, NO stickers, NO tears and NO sticker stains .

• It comes in an Atlantic Records stock paper sleeve in VG condition which I believe is the correct sleeve for this issue. 

Simply a GREAT LED ZEP PROMO RECORD in GREAT condition for someone’s vinyl collection!
