Description
On offer is one of the most iconic rock albums ever produced, namely Led Zeppelin’s first album from my personal collection. Using only 36 hours of studio time during a period of about three weeks Jimmy Page was able to produce this magnificent album of blues/rock fusion that resulted in Led Zeppelin being one of the greatest bands in rock history. This is a second pressing with orange lettering that closely followed the even rarer 1st pressing with the same catalogue number and the turquoise lettering on the front cover and a Superhype publishing credit. This copy has the Warner Bros./7 Arts publishing credit. Later pressings have a different catalogue number (K40032).
The sleeve incorrectly lists the playing time of “How Many More Times” as 3:30 (actual playing time about 8:28). Runouts are stamped, except for the third digit in the catalogue number. This digit (8) is overstroked and replaced by a hand etched 8. The fully laminated sleeve with the grey stripe across the base of the front cover was used on the sleeves with the turquoise lettering and was discontinued shortly afterwards.

To ensure buyer and seller are fully aware of what is on offer I always play grade the album and provide an honest assessment of the quality of the vinyl. Apart from a couple of minor clicks at the end of “You Shook Me” on side one the album sounds superb with the dynamic production still sounding as fresh as when uttered was recorded in 1968 and I am happy to classify it as EX. There is no visible spindle wear and no marks or blemishes on the labels.
The outer, laminated sleeve has no crease, folds or significant signs of aging. As previously stated on many of my descriptions I stuck a personal Dymo Tape label in the top right corner of the back cover when I was an impetuous teenager adding to the album’s provenance. The original inner sleeve is included although it was replaced by a modern protective sleeve many years ago.
Overall, this is a great copy of Led Zeppelin’s ground breaking first album and would be a valuable addition for any collector of their musical legacy.
