Description

LED ZEPPELIN II 1969 Atlantic SD 8236 Robert Ludwig “RL” Hot Mix Pressing – Rare

For sale is a highly sought-after copy of Led Zeppelin’s landmark second album, Led Zeppelin II, on Atlantic Records SD 8236, featuring the famous Robert Ludwig “RL” mastering.

ABOUT THE RL PRESSING

The original 1969 Robert Ludwig mastering is widely known among collectors as the “RL Hot Mix” or “RL Hot Cut.” Ludwig cut the album with powerful bass, high output, and wide dynamics. Some record players of the period reportedly had difficulty tracking the demanding cut, so Atlantic replaced it early with a less aggressive mastering. Genuine RL copies were therefore available for only a limited time and are considerably harder to find than later recuts.

The key identifier is the hand-etched “RL” in the record’s runout or dead-wax area. Please review the close-up photos of the runouts and labels to confirm the exact pressing details.

CONDITION

Vinyl: G+

The record has many hairline scratches and scuffs. It plays through with no skips. Expect audible crackle at the beginning of tracks and during quieter passages. Nice starter copy that you can really hear the music.

On Side Two, Track 1, “Heartbreaker,” a scuff is audible during approximately the first 30 seconds. This is a well-played collector copy and is graded conservatively.

Cover: F (Fair)

The cover is heavily worn and has condition issues, including a split along the bottom and staining. Please see the photos. The inside gatefold is clean and remains in good shape. Although the jacket is rough, the cover is generally easier to replace than a genuine RL pressing.

Inner Sleeve: Generic replacement sleeve.

Please review all photos carefully. They are part of the description and provide the best representation of the vinyl, labels, matrix and runout markings, and cover condition. This item is being sold in the condition shown and described. SHIPPING & HANDLING
