Description
Here is an absolutely stunning copy of a UK 1st pressing of Led Zeppelin's 2nd album, released in October 1969. The vinyl is clean and shiny with a few surface marks but is in Excellent condition! The famous Red/Plum Atlantic labels labels are in Excellent condition with very little spindlewear.
Significant features: Unlike later pressings, the catalogue number 588198 is typefaced stamped into the run out, with Polydor matrix A (inverted triangle) 2 and side indicators [ ] 7 on side one, and 588198 B (inverted triangle) 2 and side indicators [ ] on side 2 There are no track timings on the labels. On side 1 The Lemon Song is correctly credited to Plant and Page (later pressings re-name this 'Killing Floor') On side 2 Livin' Lovin' Maid has in brackets (She's A Woman) - later this became (She's Just A Woman) There is no 'Stereo' on the front cover as in later pressings The cover itself is in Excellent condition with only small evidence of use in its almost 47 year life, mostly on the outer spine; the gatefold's inside is near mint! Below the track listing it features the "UPTIGHTAN'OUTASIGHT is the Official Atlantic Appreciation Society at 17-19 Stratford Place W1"
Nicknamed 'the brown bomber' this copy has the sought after unlaminated light brown gatefold E J Day & Co cover with award winning art work by David Juniper. The cover image is based on a World War 1 photo of the German Air Force 'Flying Circus' led by the 'Red Baron'. It was tinted and the faces of the band members were airbrushed on afterwards.
This 2nd album shows Led Zeppelin developing their musical style - still blues based but heavier and flamboyant. Produced by Jimmy Page, it is also the band's first album to feature him playing a 1959 Gibson Les Paul It heralded a new era for rock, and is thought by many to be the "birthdate of heavy metal" As collectors know, this is one of the most influential records in rock music - and one of the greatest of all time.
