Description
An original 1st press of Zep II on UK Atlantic. Matrix A2/B2 - very 1st cut [and pretty much guarantees 1st press]. The other indicator of the early copies is that 'Killing Floor' still exhibits as 'Lemon Song' on the labels. The vinyl comes housed in an original light-brown E J Day printed cover. The lighter covers are the earlier ones...as you approach late '71 they go darker, almost eventually to black.
Vinyl (Ex) In superb condition and has clearly only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a few very slight marks, and one slight trail - but nothing troublesome or nasty looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with just one deviation. This copy really is really impressive and more than capable of conveying the sheer weight in the guitars that later copies just cannot manage to do. You wanna be able to properly hear the vocal echoes in the lull in WLL? - then you really need the cleanest copy you can get your hands on. This copy delivers the full dynamics only a copy from the red&plum era can. Power and energy! But it is a clean player into those tricky moments. This is what takes a copy up from 'average' and into the 'awesome' category. The intro to 'ThankYou' - plays clean....The intro to RAMBLE - clean! Clean throughout Moby.. Even the mouth organ intro to BIOH - plays perfectly clean [this is highly unusual]. All I can detect is a few isolated crackles in, perhaps, one spot per side. The only deviation - there's 3-4 ticks in the opening to 'WIAWSNB'. Overall I'd argue that is an extremely good strike rate. You'll struggle to find a better playing original copy. Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex-) In great condition and many original copies will not be looking this tidy after 50 years! The front looks really well preserved - nice and flat with no signs of ageing or marking or wear. The rear exhibits some of that light surface wear that is difficult to avoid on this title. The interior looks great - no issues at all. There's some ligh t edge wear in the odd spot - nothing noticeable. The openings are still sharpish. The spine is superbly preserved. It's retained much of its original square structure. There's minimal wear observable and all the text is perfectly legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A real nice early specimen.
