Description
An original LATE 1st issue of ZEPII on UK Atlantic. 1st Press? - no not really. You need to look for A2B2's really for 1st pressing...this would come later in the chart run...June 1970 [supported by dating on the inner]. Matrix A2/B5. BUT 'Lemon Song' still showing on the labels which is a hangover from the 1st pressings - and would revert to Killing Floor very shortly after this pressing. Also copyright control still showing..which should only ever be temporary. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover - nice early Light Brown cover. The original inner sleeve is present too. So 100% genuine and 100% complete. If you need to witness ZEP at the height of their powers...for audio...you are going to struggle bettering this copy ....
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Really has the wow factor...this is one of those time traveller copies that defies belief. Superbly preserved and has only seen very lightest use - precisely what any serious Zep fan should be trying hard to track down. Excellent lustre. Under close inspection there are a couple of lightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome though. How many early copies - really - are gonna look or sound like this? A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Super quiet intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. This is the sort of standard where my ears start to get a bit excited on ZepII. This copy is absolutely superb - straight into my top 5. If you need an absolute show stopper - this would be the place to start. A great player throughout...super clean -- and that is a hard find, believe me. Excellent resolving of percussion and transients... the original recording is just superb. WLL on a clean copy is quite frankly mind-blowing...you're gonna get all those vocal echoes become apparent which can get hidden if there's background. Although ZepII is incredibly loud in parts...there are lots of lowkey sections - anything which has seen moderate use will start showing in the audio soon enough! Really clean audio throughout - clean enough to REALLY start understanding what an amazing recording this is [quite apart from some amazing playing]. There's some classic standards here - and a top copy should really be in everyone's collection. THANKYOU intro - plays superb...MOST copies DO NOT manage this level [not even close!] The fret work in the break in Heartbreaker -- is nothing short of mind-bending...! Percussive tapping into Ramble...just superb and totally unhindered - only one slight isolated tick. MobyDick...is super fussy...this has a lovely quiet background - just a couple of isolated clicks and a couple of crackles in the odd spot [much better than the typical copy]. Super clean into the super fussy intro to 'Bring It On Home'...just a couple of slightest ticks...A couple of isolated ticks late in Killing Floor and a couple of crackles [i.e minimal]. ...A super level of playback [by any measure].
Cover (Ex-) In truly great condition - rarely do you see such a well preserved specimen. Clean flat surfaces - really well preserved. Far less surface wear creasing than you typically find. The interior looks great - no issue. Slight edge wear far less than what typically exhibits. Spine is 90% intact and the text is all still legible - slight ageing. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. This is one hell of a specimen. You would struggle to equal.
Inner (Vg+) In bag is lost. A rip bottom left has been repaired. BUT - original and helps to confirm dating of LP.
