Description

An original LATE 1st issue of ZEPII on UK Atlantic. 1st Press? - no not really. You need to look for A2B2's really for 1st pressing...this would come later in the chart run...probably summer  1970. Matrix A5/B5 - which, actually, you don't tend to see a lot of [this variation]. BUT 'Lemon Song' still showing on the labels which is a hangover from the 1st pressings - and would revert to Kiliing Floor very shortly after this pressing. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover. If you need to witness ZEP at the height of their powers...for audio...you are gonna find it hard going any better than this!
Vinyl (Ex) Really very well preserved and has only seen very light use. Excellent lustre. Under close inspection there are a couple of lightest marks per side - nothing heavy or troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a straight forward EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. Nice quiet intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. This is the sort of standard where my ears start getting a bit excited on ZepII. A great player throughout -- and that is a hard find, believe me. Excellent resolving of percussion and transients... the original recording is just superb. WLL on a clean copy is quite frankly mind-blowing...you're gonna get all those vocal echoes become apparent which can get hidden if there's background. Although ZepII is incredibly loud in parts...there are lots of lowkey sections - anything which has seen moderate use will start showing in the audio soon enough! Really clean audio throughout - clean enough to REALLY start understanding what an amazing recording this is [quite apart from some amazing playing]. There's some classic standards here - and a top copy should really be in everyone's collection. An occasional minor crackle and static rustle in the lowkey moments of WIAWSNB and two slight isolated ticks. A couple of crackles right at the outset of the THANKYOU intro - which otherwise plays superb...MOST copies DO NOT manage this level! Percussive tapping into Ramble...just superb and totally unhindered. MobyDick...is super fussy...this just total silence in the background [as good as I've ever heard]. The odd slight crackle into the super fussy intro to 'Bring It On Home'...again...really difficult to find an example this clean....A super level of playback. Would probably just squeeze into the best ten I've ever witnessed. So, it is no slouch!
Cover (Vg+) In great condition with some light handling and light ageing back and front. Slightest ripple effect in the cover - not bad...just not totally flat. The interior looks great. Some wear to the edges - but nothing worrisome. Spine is 70% intact and the text is all still legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
