Description

An original red & plum copy from Xmas 1971 - these are the last red & plum copies before being phased out. Matrix A6/B4. Nice heavy pressing as you tend to find on the early ones. The vinyl comes housed in an original matt gatefold cover printed by E J Day [The original printer - with original cat number 588198 ]. Note its dark nature - these tend to come into circulation from around Xmas 1971 as red & plum was being phased out. We also have a Headhunter inner from the time too - always a bonus.
Vinyl (Vg+) In very nice condition having seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side. A couple are obviously slightly more problematic and do cause issue briefly - see detail. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals VERYGOOD+ playback with a couple of deviations per side. Intros and inbetweens are pretty quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Not clean enough to hit the topper grades, but it's playing really nice by and large. WLL plays really well - with what sounds like a very brief drum beat stumble midway. Not really a skip - more like Bonham plays a bum note [miss-hit]. And a relatively low noise floor. In fact, most of side 1 plays very nice indeed. Don't expect top level rendition - but by and large it is sounding fab with crunching heavy guitar. The main issue is in the opening bars of Heartbreaker. A couple of marks very early on cause a couple of brief pulses of distortion, and one brief non-repeating skip. Thankfully, its over quickly and the remaining 90% of the track plays superb. The usual slight crackle creeping into the signal during the intro to BIOH [pretty minor]. A few crackles in the quietest moments of MDick. And only super clean copies manage to avoid that. Just be sure you can handle that brief issue right at the start of Heartbreaker. Other than that - A big thumbs up.
Cover (Vg+) Nice condition and better than many specimens look like by this point in time. The interior looks really nice. Note sticker removal mark bottom right corner. Some edge wear here and there, but nothing worrisome. A crease running vertical on the rear - left side. The spine is intact with minor wear and text 80% legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in construction.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.
