Description
Led Zeppelin "II" Atlantic SD-8236, "1841 Broadway" address on label, 'RL' etched into the deadwax; features a narrow deadwax band on side 2 (wider grooves, taking up more space = louder, bottom-heavy play). 1969 issue, Robert Ludwing mix 1st pressing. The mix differences are substantial! Robert Ludwig's mix pushes Plant and Page out to the sides, giving a strong, powerful feature for John Paul Jones' bass and a good portion of John Bonham's drums - the difference on headphones is at times startling if you're only familiar with the standard issue. This is a legendary pre-metal sound mix, well ahead of it's time, that was pulled almost immediately because circa 1970 stereo gear could not handle the reproduction (allegedly). We'd say that Page and Plant couldn't handle the mix, but that's likely a b.s. tale, since RL was invited back to put his stamp on "Houses of The Holy." His console-work is also featured on 2 or 3 of the early 1970's Capitol LPs by The Band.
The vinyl is VERY clean for a 'brown bomber' - in VG+/NM- shape with a few light marks, some light sleeve scuffs that do not impose on the mix. The gatefold cover and company inner sleeve are in VG/VG+ shape with edge/corner wear, some light front cover soiling that's apparent on the white 'zeppelin' portion of the graphics.
