Description
Led Zeppelin II UK 1st press Atlantic lp 588 198
Matrices 588 198 A2/B2
On this classic Page and Plant took an old blues song "Killing Floor", renamed it "The Lemon Song" and claimed it as their own. The courts put a stop to this so that later pressings have the correct song title on the label. This copy - with the incorrect title and earliest possible matrices - is thus a very early pressing, but it does not have the Living Loving Wreck misprint.
The record is graded vg. It is flat clean and shiny. There are a fair number of surface marks that are visible in sunlight. None of these are particularly deep but they are noticeable. There is a very faint background crackle in the run-ins and between some (but not all) tracks. There is also the odd very light click between tracks but not during the music. The music is unaffected by any of this except for a very light background crackle on in the quiet parts of "Thank You" and "Bring it on Home". Even here it is barely noticeable. Over all the sound is at least very good.
The labels are in excellent condition. There are a number of spindle marks but no other defects.
The cover is graded vg-. It has the customary problems that this sleeve always has: corner and edge wear and some ring-wear and rubbing to both front and rear. There is also a sticker tear to the rear of the sleeve.
Neither record nor sleeve could count as a final upgrade copy, but these are the earliest matrix numbers I have ever seen on this lp. It is not mint but it is a great listen.
