Original unique Atlantic Records single-type cover, with the 1st pressing SD 7201 catalog number, whose front cover was most likely manufactured using the photo negative with the design of the "Led Zeppelin III" reel-to-reel tape box (Which you can also see listed at the current auction). If it wasn't due to the existing covers of a similar design then it could be said that this cover is a bootleg. However, if you'd like to be certain of the existence of these covers yourself, please search for the "Led Zeppelin III sleeve with black holes" on Discogs and you'll see that a similar cover with black holes was printed in Italy as the second edition. There is no information about the manufacture of similar covers in the US and this is the only copy I've ever seen so far. And it becomes even more surprising to be holding this cover in your hands. This original cover was printed in the US, remains in the original shrink wrap and contains the original hype sticker. It's hard to tell what what the reason was for using the artwork of the reel-to-reel tape. I don't think it's one of the five cover designs that were offered to Jimmy Page for consideration. The back cover design almost corresponds the left panel of the standard cover's interior gatefold except for the fact that it's black and white and contains the "SD 7201" catalog number at the top. Additionally, the design element in the form of an antique bust looking at a butterfly is removed and instead, this part features the "Atlantic Recording Corporation" credits that were moved from the interior's gatefold center to the bottom right-hand corner. Right below the credits, the cover reveals a series of numbers of the printing company slightly seen from underneath the paste over slick. This issue comes with the very early 1st Monarch, Los Angeles pressing vinyl that has the Atlantic Records orange-green labels with the "SD 7201" catalog number and "1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y." address. Besides the 1st matrix numbers, the trail-off vinyl contains the "MO" suffix, "(MR)" and "Δ" (Delta) stamp, all of which are the identifiers of a Monarch pressing. The Side 1 trail-off vinyl of this very early 1st pressing contains the "So Mote Be It" inscription, which Jimmy Page ordered to be inscribed before the production began, just like "Do What Shou Wilt" in the runout groove of Side 2. The full matrix numbers are as follows: SIDE 1 - ST-A-702005-AA MO (W) (MR) (1) ONE DELTA15193 Mastercraft PR -So Mote Be It- AT; SIDE 2 - ST-A-702006-AA MO (MR) DELTA15193-x (2) Mstercraft PR -Do What Shou Wilt- AT. The album comes with the original Atlantic Records inner sleeve containing the other Atlantic releases.

The cover is in stunning Near Mint condition with only some light age discoloration along the mouth of the back cover. Just like the cover, the glossy vinyl and inner sleeve are in Near Mint condition. The vinyl looks amazing and is completely clean with only one small super light and barely noticeable scuff on Side 1 from the original inner sleeve. The clean labels are in pristine Near Mint condition and don't have any spindle wear as the album has been barely played. The vinyl sounds fantastic without any skips, pops or clicks, and even barely has any background noise.
