Description
An early Zep IV that plays great...and doesn't cost the earth. When you listen to a copy like this which is high quality and, in reality,, close to the original masters..it does beg the question,,,. Why would you ever pay more than £50 for a great original ZepIV! Well worth taking a closer look I'd say.>>>
This Zep IV copy comes from Q1 1972 - immediately after the last red & plum copies. A copy like this makes for an excellent compromise for someone looking for some early magic - without having to shell out major $$$$ Note - labels do not mention Warners in the perimeter and text is all found in the southern half of the label - these are the 1st orange and green copies. Matrix in the deadwax refers to the original plum catalogue number and original Porkie cut A3/B3. This is, in fact, a 1st cut matrix. Nothing earlier exists - it is the 1st Peckham cut which would be found on a day 1 copy. Yes - it's true. An initial batch of orange and green escaped with a Day 1 cut...How rare is this...? Pretty hard to find. I think this might be the 2nd one I've ever found! The HEAVY_SET vinyl comes housed in an original early gatefold cover. Also included is an an original 1st issue inner with exposed flips. If you thought Zep were good...take a listen, here, because you will hear first hand how Zep were not good - but were truly Epic!
Vinyl (Ex) Really well preserved and has only seen lightest use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks per side - one does just about sound....see detail [minor]. A thorough testing reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with just one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Stairway PLAYS CLEAN....even that mega fussy intro. Nine out of ten original copies never manage that. Always THE most difficult tracks to find playing perfectly clean. The same is true of California too...this track is mega fussy. Highly recommended. Well worth the money to get you close to those original OCT71 masters. THE ONLY VAGUE ISSUE ---->>> a small mark in BLACK DOG - will cause 4 ticks. Given that Zep are totally ripping it up, here, it's barely worth mentioning. BUT I must for those who are particularly keen on perfection! If you are someone who really needs those acoustic numbers to play perfect...well worth taking a closer look at this one. Guaranteed to match ANY red and plum copy.
Cover (Vg+) In great condition with only slight ageing and wear apparent.. some edge wear but very tidy. The interior looks lovely!. The spine exhibits minimal wear. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and has clearly been looked after. A super looking specimen
Inner (Vg-) In poor condition.. BUT THIS IS A 1st Issue INNER...Sides split - tape repaired. Elliptical opening - carved by yours truly as the opening was ripped.
