Description
Led Zeppelin (Untitled) often referred to as IV or 4 symbols.
This is a very rare UK 1st Pressing on the original Plum and Red (orange) Atlantic Label.
The album spent 57 weeks in the top 10 and was only available with the Plum label for 12 weeks as Atlantic swapped to their new Green labels after this.
This copy is the very first 'version 1' labels which name Peter Grant as the executive producer on both sides of the label.
The run-off shows true first pressing matrix numbers: A//3 B//3 along with PECKO DUCKY (side 1) & PORKY (side 2) in reference to British lacquer and Mastering engineer George Peckham.
Also contains original lyric inner sleeve in the dark grey colour - replaced by a lighter version in later copies.
The condition of the record is as follows:
Sleeve: Good +
The sleeve is respectable but has seen better days.
I have graded G+ as both the front and the back have several small areas where the printed outer layer has torn off. They are well camouflaged, however, due to the nature of the sleeve.
The centrefold is in much better shape with minimal signs of wear - just two old pieces of sellotape.
The spine and the corners are in very good condition with only subtle signs of storage wear.
A nice sleeve to go in your collection.
Disc: Very Good
Considering the condition of the sleeve the disc sounds great.
Playback is excellent on the whole - with great clarity and channel separation.
As is normally the case (in my experience) Side 2 is cleaner than Side 1. Naturally Side 1 gets played more.
There is slight groove ware on half a turn of both 'Black Dog' and 'Battle of Evermore'. There are three scratches which cause three pops each: one on 'Battle of Evermore' and two on 'Stairway to Heaven'.
These don't detract from the listening experience, however. It's a real pleasure to listen to.
The labels are really clean, with minimal spindle wear and no writing.
A record that has been well looked after and that will be thoroughly enjoyed!
Inners: Good +
The inner on this record is notoriously difficult to keep in good shape.
As a result, it often gets swapped for the later light grey version. Fortunately, this copy still has the original.
It does has a seam split and has been ripped at the top.
It is not written on, though, and all the original text is still present and readable.
To preserve the inner sleeve from further deterioration I have kept the record in an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve which is also provided.
Overall this is a really nice copy of an increasingly rare record that is extremely sought after. Here is your chance to get a copy!
The record is kept within a polythene outer sleeve and will be posted in a padded vinyl record mailer.
