Description
For sale is a copy of Led Zeppelin’s fourth studio album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV.
This is an original STEREO UK 1st Pressing produced in 1971 which features the sought-after plum & orange Atlantic labels.
The album spent 57 weeks in the top 10 of the UK album charts and was only sold with Plum and Orange labels for the first 12 weeks.
This copy features the so-called ‘version 5’ labels with the ‘Misty Mountain Top’ misprint.
In short, this is an extremely rare record in superb NEAR MINT condition.
Many vinyl records are mis-sold on eBay. There are several details which identify this copy as a true 1st pressing. They are:
· Non-laminated gatefold sleeve without any printed text.
· Plum and Orange Atlantic labels.
· Dark grey inner sleeve featuring the Stairway to Heaven lyrics.
· 2401012 catalogue number.
· Pecko Ducky & Porky stamped into the runout groove of side 1 and side 2, respectively
· Matrix numbers A//3 (side 1) and B//3 (side 2).
As previously stated, this record has the ‘version 5’ labels. These are characterised by several features:
1. The text “Under Licence of…” printed underneath the “Atlantic” symbol
2. Track 1 of side two incorrectly printed as “Misty Mountain Top”
3. The feather in the fourth symbol correctly oriented on both side 1 and side 2.
I try to take pictures which provide a fair representation of the condition of a record and the sleeve. If interested, please read below for a more detailed discussion which includes an audio description.
I use the Goldmine standard as a reference for grading.
Vinyl: Near Mint
Visually the record looks as it would have 51 years ago.
Both sides of the vinyl surface retain the original gloss sheen.
The labels are bright and clean with no evidence of spindle wear.
The audio on both sides is fantastic; exactly how you want to listen to this record.
There is great channel separation, clear vocals and punchy basslines.
There is no popping, clicking or hissing and no noticeable dust crackle.
Truly a final upgrade copy that perfectly reproduces the sound that the band wanted you to hear.
Sleeve: Excellent
The sleeve is in fantastic condition.
All four sides retain the original bright colours.
The corners are sharp, and the spine and edges are distinct.
There is a small square of discolouration on the rear of the sleeve from the removal of a price sticker which keeps the sleeve from being NM.
Inner Sleeve: Near Mint
The original dark grey inner sleeve is in Near Mint condition.
These are very fragile; it is remarkable how crisp this copy feels after 51 years.
There is no visible discolouration and no tears, rips or creasing at all.
Also included in the sale is an audiophile quality inner sleeve which provides the best possible protection for the record.
You will struggle to find a copy in better condition than this. It is truly a final upgrade record that would be a great addition to any record collection.
The album is housed within a premium quality polythene outer sleeve. The vinyl is separate to the sleeve.
The album will be sent within a padded vinyl record mailer.
