This listing

A total one-off for serious Led Zeppelin collectors.This ORIGINAL OFFICIAL AND BOOTLEGPROGRAMME COMBINATION, UNSEPARATED SERRATED TICKET (No B06236), ORIGINAL BADGE and5 PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS should be acceptable to most collectors; I am not as articulate as a number of eBay sellers on the background, supposed rarity, etc and so will just give you the facts as you know what you’re looking for as otherwise you would not have clicked on this listing.

Led Zeppelin Knebworth Concert ORIGINAL AND BOOTLEG PROGRAMMES for their 1979 live performances on August 4th and 11th. In addition there is the FULL SERRATED TICKET No B06326 FOR THE FIRST DAY on August 4th which has not been separated, TOGETHER WITH AN ORIGINAL BADGE and 5 PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS. I was at Knebworth for the amazing concert on the 11th with a group of 20 year old friends, all massive Led Zeppelin fans. A few of our group of friends managed to get tickets when they first came on sale and so went on the 4th and I bought memorabilia from one of them 30 years ago; I know they are all genuine, a number of badges were later reproduced so beware. I still have my original set of these from August 11th in my collection.

This is MEGA RARE TOTAL PACKAGE as it has the extremely hard to find bootleg programme and a full unseparated serrated ticket.

The August 4th tickets were red and August 11th green. This one is red denoting the first date and is numbered B06326 WHICH IS NOT ONLY EXTREMELY LOW BUT IS ALSO UNSEPARATED.I was not so lucky with mine a week later as my 2 serrated ticket pieces were separated like nearly all were.

This is what you get:

1. The ORIGINAL OFFICIAL PROGRAMME IS IN EXCELLENT+/NEAR MINT condition, there is no colour loss anywhere on the black cover, this is quite remarkable given that it survived the whole 15 hours of the concert without any damage - see detailed photographs, I have included various internal page photographs, all pages are of the same quality THERE ARE28 PAGES IN TOTAL INCLUDING THE FRONT AND REAR COVER. There is no rusting to the staples and the pages are all intact, the centrefold has 2 small marks which are not obtrusive especially in context of the whole programme and that it was there for 15 hours and a further 8 hours on the way home thereafter the next day. It will be extremely difficult to find a better programme on its own let alone as part of the total package.

I have shown similar pages from both programmes to highlight one is in colour and the other black and white with a slightly differing layout on some pages.

2. The FULL UNSEPARATED SERRATED ULTRA-LOW NUMBERED TICKET B06326 is in fantastic condition. GRADED EXCELLENT+/NEAR MINT.

3. The ORIGINAL BOOTLEG PROGRAMME IS IN VERY GOOD condition. This has a 5cm “C” shaped scratch on the front cover together with some general creasing from handling and storage;there is dark brown staining to the rear white cover – see photographs, I remember my friend telling me that he was so annoyed when he dropped it during the concert. The inside pages are in really nice condition, there is some rusting to the staples but they are fully intact and have not caused any damage to the pages.

Background to the bootleg programme

I remember that this bootleg programme was sold in and around the camping areas and on the long walk to the Knebworth concert arena; it was also sold at the Knebworth railway station for those not arriving by car as we did. It was not officially sold in the arena.It has a totally different front and rear cover to the official version although a number of internal pages are similar and are all printed in black and white whereas the official programme does have some colour pages; THERE ARE 24 PAGES IN TOTAL INCLUDING THE FRONT AND REAR COVERS. The bootleg programme cost £1.00p and so was more expensive than the official programme!! When fans arrived from all over the UK and abroad they thought they were buying the programme for the concert only to find out later, when entering the arena, that the official programme was on sale some 10% cheaper. These programmes were not sold in such large numbers as the official ones and rarely come up for sale and there was a reason for that as detailed below.

It is well documented that Peter Grant the legendary Led Zeppelin manager (who was not known for his subtly shall we say), was annoyed with Freddy Bannister, the Knebworth site land owner,as he felt there was in excess of 200,000 fans at the first concert whereas “the deal” on ticket and merchandise sales was based upon 100,000 ticket sales -legal action followed and Bannister’s company was liquidated. Peter Grant was a formidable huge presence who had negotiated hard with promoters in the US and turned the tables on the US promoters’ previous substantial slice of the revenue and so increased the band income substantially as a result. He arranged for “his teams” to go out once he heard of the bootleg programmes being sold and his teams systematically removed them from bootleg sellers; in addition for the August 11th concert Peter Grant took firm control of ticket sales to ensure that if there were any additional profits to be made they were not going to Freddy Bannister, he also again clamped down on the sale of bootleg programmes hence the reason why these are so rare.

4. OFFICIAL BADGE BOUGHT AT THE CONCERT, this has only some light tarnishing to the mental on the rear and is identical to all others I own or have seen, the badge is in EXCELLENT/EXCELLENT+CONDITION.

5. I purchased some EXCELLENT PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE CONCERT; these were TAKEN BY A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER WITH PRESS ACCESS. I am including 5 from my collection as part of the sale. GRADED EXCELLENT+/NEAR MINT

Packing of programme etc

I send out in pizza box style packaging with a minimum of 2 cardboard stiffeners and bubblewrap. I have sent out vinyl records and memorabilia across the world without any reports of defects in packaging, my feedback bears testimony to how I pack my items. I DO NOT use mailing envelopes as they are not fit for purpose.

The item will be sent out in a protective plastic cover.

I will pack specifically to buyer’s requirements if advised prior to shipping, if I cannot do so for whatever reason then I will notify buyer who then has the option to withdraw from the transaction.

Postage

In order to comply with eBay rules the buyer must receive the item purchased and so the buyer will be responsible to pay appropriate fully insured and signed for postage as follows:

Special Delivery with Standard £500 insurance [Signed For, Next Day] = £8.60.

Europe (including Russia)Small Packet ‘Signed For’ with full Royal Mail Insurance = £14.50

Rest of World (including ALL parts of the USA) Small Packet ‘Signed For’ with full Royal Mail Insurance =£16.50

Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia; I have sent numerous packages there without any problems.Delivery can take 4 to 6 weeks from the UK, please be patient and it will arrive, don’t forget it is insured just in case it is lost in transit. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian postal website.

Posting to Italy: Yes I do post to Italy, I have previously had bad experiences with the Italian postal service and so all packages will be signed for without exception, as is the case with all international sales.

I am happy to combine listings won to save on postage costs, please let me know if you want to defer payment until you have finished buying. I expect all purchases to be paid for within 14 days of the original purchase.

Proof of shipping is retained for all postings and I will provide tracking numbers, where applicable. I will notify the buyer via eBay system when the item has been shipped.

I use quality packing materials,the cost of which is not fully recovered in the postage cost paid by the buyer,please bear this in mind.

The buyer is responsible for all import taxes/duties and other related charges into their own country as applicable. If the item is returned due to failure of the buyer to pay the appropriate import taxes/duties and other related charges then if the item is to be re-posted a further postage charge will be made which the buyer must pay before it is re-posted.

I only accept PayPal in £Sterling (GBP). I do not accept PayPal Echeques.

Returns Policy

If any winning bidder is not satisfied with their purchase I will offer a complete refund.
