‘Led Zeppelin III' -

Matrix nos:
A side – 2401002 A-5; B Side 2401002 B-5
On both sides the matrix nos are hand-etched
I bought this copy on its first release and I've cherished it ever since.
I understand that the earliest matrices issued were A-5 and B-5 therefore I believe that this example has all the characteristics of a first press of Led Zeppelin III:
- 'Do what thou wilt' and 'So mote it be' etched into the run-out grooves of side 1 & 2 respectively
- Red/ Plum labels
- 'Executive Producer: Peter Grant' label credit
- 2401002 catalogue no has no hyphen or gaps
- 'Warner Bros. Music Ltd' publishing credit (rather than just 'Warner Bros. Music')
- The white stripe on the label is straight.
This is a genuine classic, a great rarity, and much sought after, especially a 1st press in such good condition. I'm confident you won't be disappointed - hence my starting price.
Using the Record Collector Grading System I would rate this item overall as Excellent+.

Cover
It has a front, back and inner laminated gate-fold sleeve with a plain inner sleeve. It is in Excellent+ condition with only the slightest lifting of laminate in two places on the back. As you can see from the pictures it is clean and in good condition with no writing or pen or pencil marks. It has no other significant marks and no tears. The front cover wheel is in perfect working order. The spine is intact and legible and the corners are perfect. The inner sleeve is near perfect too.
Record
The record itself I would grade Excellent+. It has no visible blemishes at all that I can see. The labels are clean and unmarked, with no writing, pen or pencil marks. There are no spindle marks. The playing surfaces have no visible scratches and look as good as new. The reproduction quality is about as good as it got from a 1970 vinyl pressing - it's never going to be digital quality, but pretty good nevertheless. There are no audible scratches or crackles other than the usual surface noise that you'd get with any new vinyl record. The lead in and play out grooves are clean and glitch-free.
I believe this is as close as you'll get to a mint condition original copy of this very rare LP. Although this record was a big UK hit it will be very hard to find one so well-preserved.
