Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti 1975 Vinyl LP *FIRST PRESSING* A1 B4 C1 D1 SSK 89400 VG+
This is an original first pressing of Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin on Swan Song. The matrix numbers on the records are A1 B4 C1 D1 - the earliest known pressings. There are no warner logos present on the labels, and the 484 Kings Road address is present on outer sleeve and insert, along with the ‘Gothic Print Finishers Ltd.’ printing credit.
This is a very good example of the legendary record, with the outer sleeve only showing a few signs of age - not bad for a 40 year old record! The LPs themselves play beautifully and have been kept in very good condition over the years. More details about the features of the record and grading follow.
Outer Sleeve - VG+
The sleeve shows some wear around the edges, and in particular top right corner where significant edge wear. However, the sleeve still retains a solid quality and has vibrant clear colours with only a few creases and no major rips or tears with all the ‘windows’ remaining perfectly in tact.
Inner Sleeves - VG+/EX
The inner sleeves containing the records are in excellent condition with no deterioration, rips, splits or discolouration.
Wrap-around Insert - VG
At some point in its life the insert has experienced some water damage to one side/corner. This has caused some creasing to the cardboard and discolouration. However, the print finish is still intact and is perfectly legible.
SIDE A: SSK-89400-A1 - VG+/EX
Beautiful glossy and shiny record with only a few marks present, most likely from it exiting the paper sleeve. It plays very well with only slight crackle present. The label is unblemished and in excellent condition. Virtually no wear to the centre hole.
SIDE B: SSK-89400-B4 - VG+/EX
The cleanest side here, beautifully shiny with only a couple very slight surface marks. Plays beautifully crisp and clear. The label and hole are as Side A, in perfect condition.
SIDE C: SSK-89400-C1 - VG+
Has one significant surface mark, which doesn’t affect play, other than this the side is in lovely condition with a wonderful glossy shine as with Sides A and B, including the pristine label and centre hole.
SIDE D: SSK-89400-D1 - VG
This is the most exhausted side with more marks present and one light scratch. However the side still plays well with little surface noise and crackle. The centre hole is a touch more worn, but the label retains its near perfect finish.
Overall this copy of Physical Graffiti I would grade a VG+ with some features close to Excellent. I will take a look at reasonable offers.
