Description
I am selling some of my personal vinyl collection. Many of these records are UK pressings and were purchased by me new in the 1970’s/80’s. They have been extremely well looked after, having only been played a handful of times on Linn or Rega turntables with a light stylus tracking force of 1.5 to 1.75 g.
Unless stated otherwise, the vinyl can be considered as in near mint or excellent condition, shiny and with no significant marks – basically almost as good as when it came out of the original shop. The covers vary in condition but most are excellent just showing the usual signs of storage. Most have been stored in plastic protective covers.
A word about hairline marks. It is almost impossible to find any non-sealed record without any hairline marks - many had them from new, particularly if sold with cardboard inner sleeves. They are a result of storage and use and have little impact on sound quality. Likewise, very few original vinyl records lie totally flat. As for background noise, all records will have some background noise which varies wildly and often reflects the very variable pressing quality. I have bought new heavy pressing LP's in recent years and many of the original records I am selling not only look better but they sound better! I only draw attention to marks, warping or background noise in my listings if I consider them significant.
This album is Led Zeppelin's classic "Physical Graffiti" double LP on Swan Song SSK 89400. It is a record I have owned from first release and has been well looked after.
Now here is the important information and why this album should be of such interest!
The album has a thick card die cut outer box cover with the 484 Kings Road, London SW10 address at the top. The inner sleeves are thick card with SSK 89400/A and 89400/B stamped in bottom right hand corners (only first pressings had this). The fold out insert is of relatively thick card. The record labels have "Made in UK" and no Warners logo. Critically, the matrix (dead wax) numbers are A1/B5/C1/D1.
These features mark out this album as one of the FIRST EVER UK pressings - highly sought after and rare.
Vinyl grading is a good solid "Excellent" according to the Record Collector Guide. There are minor scuffs/hairlines from the original cardboard inners which don't impact on the superb sound quality.
The records have been professionally cleaned using a £3,000 Keith Monks Omni VII Record Cleaning Machine which results in low background noise and opening up of the sound.
Test played superbly on my new Rega RP6 turntable. Fantastic dynamic sound that puts digital versions to shame. For example, the bass drum "kick" at the end of "Custard Pie" knocks you out of your seat on this LP - I barely notice it on my CD version!
The cover and inserts are in very good overall condition as the album has been stored in a plastic cover in recent years. The main cover shows some slight edge and corner wear and the inners have some minor breaks in their edges. Note vinyl has been stored in new paper/poly inners in recent years.
I sold a near mint copy of this album recently for over £200 - here is a chance to pick up another very nice collectable copy!
