Cover: Original first-press laminated single cover with turquoise lettering, printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd, London. There are a few laminate creases and some light corner-wear, but no ringwear, seam splits, tears or writing. Apart from some laminate lift, the spine shows very little wear, with all text clear and legible. There is a small area on the back where some glue has stained through with age (see second photo, bottom-left corner), but otherwise a super cover for its age. Grades somewhere around VG+ to EX-.
Inner Sleeve: White, die-cut, paper inner sleeve with blue “Made in England/Patent No. 1,125,555” text. The sleeve has discoloured with age, and there are a few small tears and creases, but no seam splits.
Labels: Original Atlantic red and plum labels with minimal spindle wear. The ‘Superhype’ credit is present, confirming that this is the correct first-issue LP accompanying the original sleeve.
Vinyl: Original UK Atlantic first pressing, with uncorrected matrix numbers. There is a light mark on Side One that runs across the first track and part-way into the second track, but this mark is purely superficial and has no effect on playback. Under a halogen light, I can see a few light hairline sleeve-removal marks, but again, these have no effect on playback. I have play-graded this at loud volume and the only flaws I can hear are some light background crackle during the organ intro to ‘Your Time Is Gonna Come’ on Side Two, and a couple of isolated spots of background crackle on Side One. However, these are all isolated, short-lived and occur either in-between tracks or during quieter moments; they certainly are not loud and do not detract from the music. The rest of the album plays near-mint, with dynamic sound quality and quiet track breaks; no pops, ticks, skips or distortion. Strictly graded as EX+.
Additional Info: Withdrawn first pressing of Led Zeppelin's debut LP. It has the turquoise lettering on the front of the cover, 'Superhype' credits on the labels and the uncorrected matrix numbers associated with the very first pressings. All of the vinyl that I am selling is from my personal collection, and has been cleaned on a VPI HW 16.5 Record Cleaning Machine. After cleaning, I keep my records in ‘Mobile Fidelity’ rice paper inner sleeves and store them with the records outside of the covers.
