Description
There are eight red/plum label variants for Led Zep IV. This is the very first.
This has the following matrix numbers:
Side 1: 2401012 A//3
Side 2: 2401012 B//4
The run-out grooves are also etched with PECKO DUCK and PORKY.
(NB: ALL EIGHT variants can be found with either a B//3 or B//4 matrix, so the matrix numbers cannot be used to identify the first copies: only the labels can show this.).
However label clearly shows very first press as has Peter Grant Executive Producer Credit and also has the inverted feather on side 2! The original inner sleeve with exposed flip-back edges and Keith Morris photography credit.
Cover is original un laminated with some wear to edges and some more significant damage to spine where shelf removal/handling has caused some loss of printed surface. A 1inch split to opening bottom corner and some writing to front cover and stickers to put band name and title. The lantern of the inner image has also been coloured. Tear marks to rear cover thus only Good. Inner is fair due to tears and tape. Vinyl G+ to VG- condition. The playing surface on both sides is scuffed from removal from inner and shows that record has been well played. There are several more evident marks and light scuffs/scratches - in particular a noticeable long scuff as shown across track 1 on side two which causes odd click. The record plays fine with no jumps or skips but does have some light crackle throughout. Name on one label. Rare Peter Grant credit. Inverted feather first press issue. Serviceable and playable copy of this rare item but clearly not mint or excellent. Cheap start price.
