Description
First U.S. copy of Led Zeppelin's legendary 4th album manufactured on the West Coast at the Monarch pressing plant in Los Angeles, CA . It dates from the initial pressing run from 1971. These particular pressings are very hard to come by these days....especially in good playable condition. The matrix numbers/letters indicate that this pressing was prepared and mastered by renowned mastering engineer, George Peckham. It is a very desirable pressing for the overall balance, equalization, and clarity of the audio. Have a look at all the pictures and matrix numbers carefully.
Gatefold Cover: Excellent.....made with sturdy card stock, there is little to fault save for some bottom edger wear. Colors are still vivid....inner gatefold is clean as is the spine. Back cover has some barely noticeable ring wear. A very nice example.
Original Inner-Sleeve: VG....the striking double-sided printed inner is in decent shape. The paper used is slightly textured and fairly thick. In fact, the only thing preventing me from giving it an Excellent grade are three small seam splits which can easily be repaired. Another inner-sleeve will be included to house the precious record.
Record: VG to VG+(+).....both labels are rich in color and exceptionally clean. Side 2 labels have a somewhat deeper groove. The record has good weight for this time period. Under strong light some hairlines and marks can be seen but they appear mostly superficial. There is a touch of surface noise on some songs but it never overpowers the music. The audio for the most part is solid and impressive.
