If I had a dollar for every time I've seen the words "Lenny Breau's rarest album," I'd have a big bucket of dough. The problem is, those words are never used correctly. Yes, many Lenny albums are tough to find in superior condition (Guitar Sounds, The Legendary Lenny Breau, Seven-String Dragon, etc.), but this LP I'm offering is truly the rarest of Lenny's official releases. It's the elusive "Musical Buffet" album with childhood friend and fellow guitarist Shep Spinney. Released on the JATO label (the only record JATO ever released), this was a limited local pressing (only 200 copies) and most are probably now in New Jersey landfills. If you find it ANY condition, you've scored bigtime, and this one is M-/M-. Thought Lenny could only play mindblowing guitar? Wrong--he wrote the liner notes. So much for the myth that Lenny was an idiot-savant who couldn't read, write or think beyond the fretboard! And there is also a very groovy picture of Lenny and Shep on the back cover, with Lenny playing a big-ass Gretsch that's about to swallow him whole (and what's the deal with the short-shorts, Shep? Didn't you know it was picture-day at school?). Shep was not only a childhood friend of Lenny's; he was also one of many people over the years who tried the impossible: manage Lenny. Burned badly by the experience, Shep is still reluctant to talk about that episode. But for a brief time in 1978, the two were all smiles, and this "musical buffet" is more than a morsel for Lenny fanatics. A must-own. Shipping is $2, payment by money order. U.S. bidders only.
