Cover: ex- (back has some stains plus part of the text is censored, see description; corner wear) Original ultra-rare censored cover+red vinyl pressing of Lenny Bruce's first record. Apparently due to some kind of contract dispute, Fantasy had to remove Lenny Bruce's name from the first production run of this lp - they managed to not print it on the front cover (later issues would have the full title "Lenny Bruce's Interviews" printed on the front), but forgot to remove the many appearances of his name in the liner notes on the back, resulting in the need to cross out by hand all occurrences of his name in black marker (see photo)! It is generally acknowledged that the only true first pressings of this lp are the ones with both red wax AND no appearance of Bruce's name, making this copy the real deal. The recording itself is a strange and funny spoken word comedy album from the beat generation era, with a great cover parodying the beat-poet-intellectual-hipster stereotype (the liner notes claim they are all really "White Russians"). With plenty of clever impressions, joking references to the anti-communist crusade, and lampooning of bebop jazz culture and "High Fidelity Nuts"-- in other words, a wonderful satirical time capsule of late 1950s America from one of the greatest caustic comedic minds. Some tracks are excerpts from Bruce's live performances, and others are studio-produced sound collages with multiple tracks of voices and effects. The great experimental dj Henry Jacobs guest stars on at least 2 tracks, with hilarious interviews of himself as the characters Sholem Stein and Shorty Petterstein (who would later get his own solo album). Jacobs was an early electronic composer, pioneering radio artist at Berkely's legendary KPFA (home of Charles Amirkhanian), ethnic/folk music researcher, multimedia theater artist who organized the Vortex happenings with Jordan Belson (where he mixed early electronic music by composers like Toru Takemitsu, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Luciano Berio on a 40-speaker system), and satirist who worked with Lenny Bruce under various personas; he collaborated with Alan Watts and members of Harry Partch's ensemble, and as a poet was associated with the beat poetry movement (William S Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, etc.).
