This week, I inaugurate a commemoration of the life and career in historic recordings of one of classical music's most gifted and prolific Conductors, Leopold Stokowski.
Offered is Stokowski's famous second complete recording of a work he would signature until his death in 1977:Dvorak's New World Symphony.
This is the very collectible set M-1, Victor's first electrical process Orthophonic recording 78rpm set in which Stokowski annotates the themes of the symphony in an opening "talking disc"
The performance is emblematic of what had already been called the Stokowski Philadelphia Sound
This set is comprised of original Orthophonic 78s in near E+ condition. The jacket has some lite age
Note, while this famous recording has been transfered to both Lp and cd, this is the original sound mix: a desirable quality for ultimate enjoyment
