This week, I continue a commemoration of the life and career in historic recordings of one of classical music's most gifted and prolific Conductors, Leopold Stokowski.
Offered is Stokowski's legendary experimental early 1927 electrical Orthophonic recording of Dvorak's From The New World Symphony. This is Victor's first complete recording of Dvorak's signature: From The New World Symphony
This is Stokowski's first recording of this symphony, which he would signature in multiple recordings throughout his long career.
This is the very collectible 12" first edition pressing with its original binder. Wonderfully, the discs are all E to EE+. The binder is very damaged and only included for completion
The performance is emblematic of what had already been called the Stokowski Philadelphia Sound * This rare experimental electrical process recording is distinguished notably in the First Movement where the important tympani entrance .....is replaced by the Double Basses, as the still experimental electrical process could not accurately record the symphonic tympani
