Lesley Gore ORIG US LP Girl talk VG+ ’64 DG Mercury SR 60943 Girl Group Pop
Original US LP released in 1964 on the Deep Groove Mercury Records Label. Cat: SR 60943.Girl Talk, like all Lesley Gore's early albums, had a few hits surrounded by songs that were somewhat less memorable and sometimes extremely less memorable. But it was also higher in quality than many would surmise, though inconsistent. The highlights, though, were the big hits, which were both mighty fine: "Maybe I Know," her last real classically girl group-flavored smash, and the very credible Phil Spector-esque "Look of Love." There were a couple of very low-charting songs that had their nifty points: "Hey Now" saw Gore getting more into bluesy soul than she'd ever gotten before, while "Sometimes I Wish I Were a Boy" had lyrics guaranteed to appeal to lovers of camp for decades to come. Beyond those obvious tracks of note, "Wonder Boy" was a good blue-eyed soul ripoff of Martha & the Vandellas' "Heat Wave" groove, and "Little Girl Go Home" an effective downbeat piece whose arrangement had a despondent drama in the "You Don't Own Me” mold.

Record has some light scuff marks and a few very light scratches that cause a few light crackles and is in VG+ condition.Thick gloss cover has some ring wear, light marks, a small sticker stain on top left corner, a piece of sticky tape running along bottom edge and a few tiny surface tears around edges and is in VG+ condition.

Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.

Post method for overseas: All parcels are sent via Australia Post and are sent on a standard airmail service. There are no tracking numbers on these items. If you require a tracking number the item will have to be sent as an insured item which incurs a further postage fee.
