Description

Available with this listing is the 1984 Twin/Tone Records LP release of “Let It Be” by the Replacements. This is the third studio album by the Replacements. It was released on October 2, 1984. The album was recorded at Blackberry Way Studios with mastering and lacquer cut at Masterdisk and pressing at Rainbo Records. All songs are © 1984 Nah Music ASCAP except for “Black Diamond” (track A6) which is © 1973 Rock Steady Music ASCAP.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the ORIGINAL PRESSING of the album from 1984, identifiable by the Matrix / Runout Groove information. Side A is etched with “TTR-8441-A S-12679” while Side B is etched with “TTR-8441-B S-12680”.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: At some point during the lifespan of the album, the original inner sleeve (which featured a listing of the Twin/Tone Records library) was replaced with a plain white paper sleeve. It’s evident that the replacement sleeve has been in use for quite some time and we have no idea when the swap was made.

A post-punk album with coming-of-age themes, “Let It Be” was recorded by the band after they had grown tired of playing loud and fast exclusively as on their 1983 “Hootenanny” album; the group decided to write songs that were, according to vocalist Paul Westerberg, “a little more sincere.”

“Let It Be” was acclaimed by music critics and later ranked among the greatest albums of the 1980s by AllMusic and Rolling Stone magazine. Now considered a classic, “Let It Be” is frequently included on professional lists of the all-time best rock albums, being ranked number 241 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The album was remastered and reissued in 2008, with six additional tracks and liner notes by Peter Jesperson.
