Description
Here is a Pathe "hill-and-dale" record of Lieut. Jim Europe's Four Harmony Kings, as shown. This type of record was vertically cut and used a special ball-style stylus, which I do not have, so I have not played it. I have looked it over, and I found recordings of both sides online and listened to the music that way. I know this is a historically significant record because of the group, and the fact that it was one of the last projects that Jim Europe was involved with in early 1919, not long before his death in May of that year. The record surely is not perfect and has some scratches. I've shown a few close-ups of a few of the most significant ones, but this is not all of them. I don't know a lot about grading these Pathe discs, but the surface looks about like what a regular lateral cut record graded VG (which stands for "Very Good" which isn't actually that great) would be. The Pathe discs were a bit different in size from the usual standards. This one measures about 10.5 inches in diameter.
