ORIGINAL 1959
Sam Hopkins was a Texas country bluesman of the highest caliber whose career began in the 1920s and stretched all the way into the 1980s. Along the way, Hopkins watched the genre change remarkably, but he never appreciably altered his mournful Lone Star sound, which translated onto both acoustic and electric guitar. Hopkins' nimble dexterity made intricate boogie riffs seem easy, and his fascinating penchant for improvising lyrics to fit whatever situation might arise made him a beloved blues troubadour.
This auction is for a very rare Lightnin and the Blues record produced by Herald records in 1959. The songs on this album are Nothin but the Blues, Don't Think Cause Your'e Pretty, Lightnin's Boogie, Life I Used to Live, Sick Feelin' Blues, Evil Heated Woman, Blues For My Cookie, Sittin Down Thinkin, My Baby's Gone, Lonesome in your Home, Lighnin's Special, and My Little Kewpie Doll
This rare album would be the perfect piece to top off your blues, Hopkins, or record collection. The album is in excellent condition and plays clean.
I am going to explain the cover and vinyl in great detail as this is a very valuable record. The cover is in very good condition. There is a 2 inch seam split. The cover has very light ring wear. The back right corner of the cover has a 2 inch water mark.
The vinyl is in very good plus plus condition. Side A is in very good condition and has no marks. Side B is in very good condition and has one small scuff mark.
The album values at $1500 dollars in Goldmine's record price guide. If you have any questions please email me.
Our grading system: Still Sealed means that, it is still sealed.
NM means near mint, in other words it's perfect from what I can tell, no nicks, marks, wear or scratches. Just like off the shelf, but not sealed.
EX means that it is in excellent condition. There may be slight wear on the cover, but no seam splits, and not a lot of wear, it still looks great. For the record it means that it may have a few light marks, but nothing feelable, or that would effect the sound quality.
VG++ means that the cover may have a small seam split, or a lot of wear, but still look good. For the record it means that there may be several light marks on the record, or a couple of feelable marks that could effect the play but would not ruin the record. This could mean a short scratch or 2 on one or 2 songs.
VG+ means that the cover has a huge seam split and some wear, or has a lot of wear. For the record it means that there is one or 2 long feelable scratches on the record, or a few short scratches.
