This handsome and rare LP – on red vinyl – from Educo (EP-3005, US pressing, blue/silver label, mono) features one of the more elusive titles in this series, Lili Kraus’s wonderful all-Haydn recital, recorded by the legendary producer André Charlin in Paris in 1953.

It should be noted that this Haydn LP predates her association with Les Discophiles Franças, and that according to Kraus’ biographer, Steve Roberson, this disc was recorded specifically for Educo and thus these performances can only be found here. However, they still boast Andre Charlin’s splendid production and engineering.

The exact works her Haydn program were as follows:

Minuet in C Major

Allegro in F Major

Arietta in A Major

Andante grazioso in B-flat Major

Piano Sonata No. 5 in C Major

Piano Sonata No. 9 in D Major

Incidentally, there are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by series producer C. Michael Ehrhardt, dated October 1953, Ojai, California. The front cover design is uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor edgewear, as well as shelfwear and discoloration to the front panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
