Description

For sale a sealed copy of Little Anthony and the Imperial LP, "On a New Street".  AVCO, AV-11012-598.

On a New Street might be the ne plus ultra of the group’s post-1960s achievements.  A “lost” album from the sweetest period of Thom Bell’s storied career, the Bell side captures producer and vocalists at the peak of their powers.  Gourdine’s recognizably pinched vocal tones contrast with those of, say, Philippe Wynne of The Spinners or Russell Thompkins, Jr. of The Stylistics, but Bell instinctively knew how to surround that voice with a soft cushion of soulful accompaniment provided by MFSB.  Throughout the five songs on “The Thom Bell Side” of On a New Street, Gourdine has ample chance to fly solo, with The Imperials contributing their impeccable harmonies at just the right moments.

The album was a rare instance of Bell working his magic on an established act.  His wholly original orchestral voice supported William “Poogie” Hart on The Delfonics’ first long-player and Russell Thompkins, Jr. on The Stylistics’, and Bell even saw that a long-running act like The Spinners was essentially reborn when he took their production reins.  Little Anthony was the most established voice Bell built his pocket symphonies around at that point, but Bell’s abiding affection for Randazzo’s work with the group made On a New Street consistent with their past triumphs.

Condition

If two grades appear, the first grade is the cover and the second is the record. If only one grade appears, it is for the vinyl only.  A 2-lp album counts as two LP’s.  I grade my records conservatively.
SS = still sealed
M- = near mint, or unplayed condition. Cover is nice and new looking with no ring wear.
EX = only slight signs of wear; very clean, only light surface marks which will not distract significantly from the sound. Cover also has only slight wear, and is still in nice collectible condition. In general, if not for a couple things, it would be near mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find highly acceptable.
VG+ = played often with moderate surface wear and some moderate noise - still plays well. Cover may have medium overall wear or some ring wear. Minor warps that do not affect play are OK.
VG = overall wear, but no skips of serious defects, more noisy sound during quiet passages. Cover is well worn, usually with considerable ring wear.
VG- = heavy wear on record and cover.
G or G+ = Poor or Rough condition.

Guarantee

All records are guaranteed to be in the condition stated or you may return it and receive a full refund, postage excluded. Record must be returned within 14 days.   Insurance on domestic mailings is recommended.  Insurance on foreign shipments is usually cost prohibitive, but feel free to inquire about these costs prior to purchase.
