I’ve been collecting records for more years that I’d care to remember and inevitably, there are duplications taking up valuable space in my record den I still have 2 boxes of blues, jazz, ethnic and gospel 78’s that I’m planning to sell or trade, to make way for more records, so I’d better get started.
This one is Chin's 1002, Money is King/Honeymoon, music by Local Calypso Quintet/Honeymoon, vocals by Bedasse in E- condition.
A word about grading, all records are play graded using a Technics SL 1200, modified to play 78’s fitted with a Jelco arm, Nagaoka MP30 cartridge fitted with a Nagaoka 0.003 78 stylus and played in mono through a Quad amp and speakers - no filtering - generally quite an unforgiving system, so grading to the standard at the end of this listing is guaranteed. As far as shipping is concerned, 78’s are not only fragile, they’re precious too and there’s nothing worse than a record suffering damage as a result of poor packaging. So I’ll make sure that anything I send off will be well packed in sturdy boxes, surrounded by loads of polystyrene peanuts and / or bubble wrap. This will mean that P&P costs will be more than eBay’s quoted charges, if your in the UK this will be around £5:00, but if you are bidding from overseas, please be aware that I will not calculate the costs in advance and you will have you will have to accept the postage costs that will be calculated once I have taken the package to the Post Office. For certain overseas countries – Italy and Russia, I will also have to send the parcel by registered or tracked post, which will cost even more, so please make sure that you are prepared to pay these charges in advance.
If you win more than one item, I’ll happily combine them in one shipping. If you’d prefer it you can pick them up at a mutually convenient time and place, from the Heathrow or Newport, South Wales area. Paypal within 3 working days please, although cash on collection is very good too ?
My 78 Grading scale is based on the VJM system. N As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed)
N- Nearly Mint, but has been played No visible signs of wear or damage
E+ Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets
E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few scuffs and scratches
E- Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches
V+ An average looking 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion and surface noise not overly pronounced V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive
V- Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level
G+ Grey throughout but still serviceable Music begins to sound muffled Heavy scratches
G Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise
G- Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive
