Description
London CS 6191, Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 “Scotch,” The Hebrides Overture, Peter Maag, London Symphony, 1E/1E, blue back, FFSS pressing. This is NOT a reissue – it is the original 50+ year old, FFSS blue back pressing. It is one of the very best of the early Londons. Recorded on April 21, 22, 1960 in Kingsway Hall, London by Kenneth E. Wilkinson & Alan Reeve, it is rated 20 out of 20 by Moon and Gray. This copy looks NM and plays almost perfectly. The vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy, and overall very quiet, however, there are two sets of 10 VERY SOFT repeating tics on side 2. There are no obvious marks on either side, but I am grading side 2 as EX+ due to the tics mentioned. Other than that, the vinyl plays NM. The labels show little, or no spindle wear (see photos), and the jacket is clean with no marks, seam splits, or other defects, however there is a Goody’s price sticker in the upper right back corner (see photo). Jacket grading is NM. The inner sleeve has some creases and grades EX. In summary, this is a beautiful copy of this very highly rated golden-age recording.
