The Lost Toy People- Got A Dark Side Waiting To Get You LATHE CUT NZ 7" EP (Synapse Records 2019)
Very rare lathe cut edition of 20 (as I recall) from Kelly Michael's The Lost Toy People.This one came out in 2000.

I wrote in Popwatch 10's New Zealand Vanguard piece on Kelly Michael's of The Lost Toy People's project Tabula Rasa:
Tabula Rasa = Kelly Michael
As Tabula Rasa, Kelly Michael is perhaps the most low profile of the artists featured here. Quietly releasing the occassional lathe disc, Michael has seemingly shuned much of the community participation, releasing all of his work himself and working with a small group of friends unconnected to other bands (as far as I can tell). Tabula Rasa deftly take a sound similar to late '80's Dead C. (perhaps it's just his Michael Morley-ish vocal timbre) into a seperate direction than that band chose. Primarily vocally based, the project exploits bedroom recording to create some astonishing intense and beautiful recordings (particularly the 10" "Tabula Rasa" EP and Michael's solo "Large Distances For Jack-Flag Purple Gats LP). Occassionally specifically instrumental and at others sombrely folk inspired in a sort of cross between Alastair Galbraith and gentler Velvet Underground, Tabula Rasa are not at all noise inspired nor improvisational but rather a delightful concoction of the aforementioned legends with elements of British folk and NZ's The Garbage And The Flowers as well. Hopefully Tabula Rasa will grown in visibility and continue to create great records as they have in the past.
7" is MINT TO MINT- (note that lathe cut discs have a fair amount of surface noise from the nature of the King lathe cutting process)/Cover is MINT-.
