Ultra rare RCA Records pre-release -A1/-A1 pressing of Lou Reed’s eleventh studio album “The Blue Mask”. The album was released in February, 1982, but these special promotional DJ copies were sent to radio stations several months before the official release date. Original cover with Sylvia Reed’s design features a blue version of the photo taken by Mick Rock for the cover art of 1972 “Transformer”. The back cover contains a gold embossed “DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE” stamp in the upper left-hand corner. The promotional set includes an original large 22” x 22” RCA Records and Tapes’ promotional New Album “Lou Reed The Blue Mask” poster. The poster is dated 1981, just like the listed pre-release promotional copy, and not 1982, the date of the album’s official release. 1st print black RCA Victor “Nipper” labels with the catalog number AFL1-4221. Most likely unplayed Sterling Sound mastering vinyl with the full matrix numbers AFL1 4221-A 1 1 STERLING A1 / AFL1 4221-B 1 1 STERLING A1. White custom “The Blue Mask” inner sleeve contains the lyrics on both sides along with the credits reading “All songs written by Lou Reed Copyright ©1981 Metal Machine Music (BMI).

I grade the cover as somewhere between Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus even though it has some light scuffs on the spine. The cover is very clean and the front and back don't have any ring wear. Some light creases in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover and upper left-hand corner of the back cover, and a few along the spine. The original custom "The Blue Mask" inner sleeve is in Excellent Minus condition and doesn't have any splits. The vinyl is in beautiful unplayed Mint Minus condition. The clean labels are in Mint condition and don't have any scuffs, wear or spindle marks. The poster with the original factory fold lines is in great Near Mint Minus condition, only having some very light shelf wear, and doesn't have any pin holes, writing or tears.★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
