Description

An original 1st press of ARMSTRONG at NEWPORT on UK Philips. Matrix 1/1. The label design is perfectly consistent with 1st pressing in 1957. Tax Code = "XT" [correct for 1957]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original '57 cover in truly remarkable condition. The lettering on the front is lightly embossed.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) IN remarkable condition for the vintage and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of lightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. I'd love to say most Jaz records sound great after 60 years use - but this is very rarely the case. I am very pleased to report this copy is way above the standard that usually surfaces in the jazz genre. You're gonna get to hear the master at work in fantastic fidelity, and no signs of background to spoil the show. Plays really clean for a vintage jazz record. All I could detect was a few brief crackles in one spot per side. And a slight solitary tick in THREEPENNY. Other than that it is just a stellar performer and the acoustics are just top grade. Love it...
Cover (Ex) Wow, I very much doubt you'll be able find another cover looking like this any time soon...in fact, I think you'd struggle to find any jazz cover from '57 in this condition. It REALLY is genuine '57...hard to believe given the preservation level. The front has perfect colour retention and none of that laminate lift you often find. Consequently the aesthetic is perfectly preserved. Barely a crease on the front!. The rear, in a way, takes it up a further notch. It is TOTALLY unaged. Now, that is nothing short of astonishing. No scuffing or creasing. Flipbacks perfectly preserved. One of a kind. Minimal edge wear and sharp openings. Text fully intact on spine which is about 95% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. In practice .. FINAL UPGRADE.
