Louisiana Folklore Society (Folk-Lyric) LSF-1201, “A Sampler of Louisiana Folksongs Sung by the Traditional Performers”, recorded in 1957 by Dr. Harry Oster. The label is the predecessor of Folk-Lyric, which was established a few years later. The heavy DG vinyl plays at about VG+ on the outer tracks, where there are some light ticks, and closer to NM on the inner tracks, where there is practically no background sound. The lightly laminated jacket has a front slick and a Folkways-style back cover. There is light seamwear - mostly color loss – no ringwear, minor corner wear, and no seam splits. Toward the bottom at right on the front cover there is some moisture spotting or mildewing, though it does not leave the jacket warped; there are some tape marks along the open edge on back. A 20-page mimeographed and stapled booklet of descriptive notes and lyrics is included and is in fairly good shape with definite age toning. The recordings fall within Afro-American, Cajun, and Scots-Irish traditions. (Last year, a package to the Netherlands was lost in shipment, resulting in disappointment on both sides.) Many old records are now practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with foam padding all around the edges of the LP and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on the jacket faces. It is designed thick enough not to be bent in transit and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window with no damage to LP or jacket.
