“This is a very important release from the Californian band, Love. Dating from 1973, this album never saw the light of day in any official release. Believed lost, it only survived in acetate form. Incredibly a good quality acetate was hunted down and brilliantly transferred to vinyl.
The sound quality on my copy is very good indeed, and I wouldn't know it hadn't been transferred from an analogue master tape. The package is brilliant and lavish. The inner sleeve contains photos of Arthur Lee and comes with an LP sized 26 page booklet with fab pictures of the talented band that Arthur Lee worked with.
So what about the music? There are some clear Hendrix influences and a good deal of funky guitar! I love Arthur's voice, it's so expressive I never tire of it. To me the album is best described as very funky rock music that has a harder edge than the famous 60s stuff that Love are so well known for here in Britain. However, there are slower tracks that give the album balance and a reggae number called Beep Beep that perhaps shouldn't fit but just does! My favourite track though is Skid. It's melody and lyrics are so well matched, I can't get enough of it!
High Moon records have done a great job here and the vinyl is great. I was worried about that because I have found new American vinyl so disappointing, there must be a lot of rubbish pressing plants in the states.”
