Everywhere I've looked, “Show 'Em How” has received high praise. Now whether that's because PEOPLE actually think TheKnow . But any band as highly regarded as PENTAGRAM, that has only released six albums (not counting compilations and LiveTo receive some praise simplyFOR actually releasing an album. Now, after several spins of “Show 'Em How”, I've convinced myself that TheFrom aboutA 50/50 splitofTheTwo reasons.
Unlike The last TwoA fullband effort, butSTILL with vocalist Bobby Liebling beingThe onlyband mainstay. The rest of TheTo PENTAGRAM musiciansofThe past The guitar tone STILL bleeds that thick, meaty, 10-tone SoundVictor Griffin perfected so many years ago (which in itself pays plentyof HomageTo Tony Iommi's mighty riffing), bringingToMind smoke-filled rehearsal pads and red-hot tube amps. The leads and solos, along with The GENERALofThe album, oweA large debtTo 70sHEAVY Rock, and whileThe album as A whole fits intoThe Doom Metal genre, there are ample nodsTo Stoner Rock, Doom Rock and 70s Hard Rock. In fact, there are multiple instances that bring To MindThe monumental riffingof MOUNTAIN, and other bandsof that ilk. of course, it would be wrong not To mention that several ofThe 70s (as isThe case with most PENTAGRAM releases), so “Show 'Em How” cannot be thoughtof likeATRIBUTE album, but should rather be viewed asA genuine article that arrived A little late.
Instrumentally speaking, “Show 'Em How” is great FOR any fan of Doom/Stoner/70s Rock and Metal, with tight performances and raw emotion. But where The album becomes AThe vocalsof Mr. PENTAGRAM himself, Bobby Liebling. Upon my First listening, I found HISTo beA bit too muchTo take this go 'round, and it all but ruinedThe experienceFOR me However, I soldiered On , and continued ToHIS vocals areSTILLA little, well, off at times, they also addA unique charmToThe album. HIS various “oohs” and “whoos”, Can wear AHIS lifestyle has takenA GreatOnHIS voice, but that's also partof what makes “Show 'Em How” such an endearing album.
Now as FOR TheFORThe genre, but as with most albums there are varying levelsof qualityTo be foundOn “Show 'Em How”. The three strongest tracks Can be found within TheFirst four songsofThe album (“Wheelof Fortune”, “Elektra Glide” and “Catwalk”), and these also happenTo be amongThe heaviest tracks ofThe album. Sandwiched in between these is "Starlady", A reworking ofTo killThe momentum by being an upbeat 70s rocker amongst themA groupof Doom stompers. The Two ballads, “Prayer FOR An Exit Before TheifThe Winds Would Change” prove that darling isSTILL quite capableof showingHIS emotional side, but never get remotely closeTo being sappy, while The one-two punchofThe finalTwo tracks endsThe album in style.
While ”Show 'Em All” isn't exactly The masterpiece that many make it out ToSTILLA Damn fine albumof Doom Metal/Rock with more than justA nodToThe 70s HEAVY rock era. This is certainly not The best album ofSTILLA Doom milestone anytime this enigmaticband /figure releases an album, and “Show 'Em All” isA worthwhile purchaseTo any genre fanLUCKY enough To findA copy.
