Description
Street Survivors was the fifth studio album by Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, released on October 17, 1977. It’s the last Skynyrd album with original members, Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, and is the only Skynyrd studio recording by guitarist Steve Gaines. Three days after the album's release, on October 20, 1977, the band's chartered airplane crashed en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, killing the pilot, co-pilot, the group's assistant road-manager and three band members (Van Zant, Gaines, and Gaines' older sister, backup singer Cassie Gaines), and severely injuring most who survived the crash.
Following the disaster, it was deemed in poor taste to allow the new album cover to continue to be distributed with the original flamed design, and the offending flames were airbrushed out! Shipped copies were recalled from distributors, but the ones that were already in stores were usually kept by the owners, since it was now a banned item!
The album was an instant success, achieving gold certification just ten days after its release. It would later go double platinum. Of course, most of those copies were sold with the new cover, sans flames!
This album is unplayed! The gatefold cover is in near mint! The only wear it has is the kind of wear you could see brand new in a record store. Tiny, tiny amount of wear in a couple of the corners, and a little disc impression from the record. Look at the pics. That is the actual record you will get. Until I removed it to take pics for this listing, the record had never been removed from the sleeve!
This listing includes both of the original inserts. One is the orange/red insert with the tour dates, only 4 of which ever happened, so looking at that is kind of a grisly, ghostly feeling. It kind of takes your breath away, or at the very least, makes you think about stuff! The other side of the tour insert has the credits and track listing for the album.
The other insert advertises Skynyrd merchandise with pictures of pretty girls, and the flip side is a form to fill out to contact the band!
Dust cover is original, and label is MCA, tan label. Both inserts, dust jacket, and record are in perfect condition. The record has never been played, and the album jacket was stored in a protective cover for the past 40 years! Hard to find in this condition!
