Epsilon In Malaysian Pale is a very beautiful album -- recorded over June and July of 1975 in Berlin. The album is not like Edgar Froese's stark cold deep space debut but instead embraces warm and uplifting sounds courtesy of various keys combined with a wash of hazy mellotron and a touch of flute.
The album is divided into two tracks, both just surpassing the quarter of an hour mark and the title track opens before Maroubra Bay, the better of the two pieces closes the record out. Both tracks follow a similar spaced-out pattern, and both are rather hypnotic which is a nice change of pace and sound. Stunning and understated -- completely absent here is any of the bombast that would plague their post-Rubycon material. As far as 'spacerock' albums, one has never heard the mellotron put to such good use ("Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares" on Phaedra withstanding). Marouba Bay is, indeed, pretty scary, and both of the adventurous songs develope and deliver that paradisiac atmosphere giving the listener an altered state of mind. This is a heavy dose...
