Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. RARE AND SOUGHT 1968 Original pre-release promo printing ... the first LP by Doug Dillard and Gene Clark ... they did what the Burrito Brothers "Sin City" album did - and went right over everyone's head at the time....
.....................................................................................................In 1965 Missouri-born Gene Clark was riding the crest of unprecedented success and adulation as a member of the Byrds. Anointed as America’s answer to the Beatles, the Byrds topped the charts with folk-rock anthems like “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Turn! Turn! Turn!” and “Eight Miles High.” Gene was front and center as tambourine player, singer and principal songwriter for the group. But in early 1966 he flew the Byrds’ coop. A gifted songwriter, expectations ran high for a stellar solo career, but those hopes were dashed when his debut solo album and single both failed to chart. Dropped by Columbia Records the following year, Gene’s career remained in limbo until teaming up with banjo player extraordinaire Doug Dillard. What emerged from a series of informal jam sessions in and around Laurel Canyon was a loose-knit group of pickers seeking to break bluegrass music out of its traditional confines and redefine it in a contemporary country-rock context. The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark is a groundbreaking album that helped define country-rock and set the template not only for that genre but the entire alternative rural rock movements of the ’70s.
This is the exceptional 1968 debut, released on A&M records, from one of the first and finest L.A. country-rock outfits. Comprised of Gene Clark, hot on the heels of his departure from The Byrds and his legendary debut solo release (with the Gosdin Bros.), and Doug Dillard, the virtuosic banjoist/guitarist of the Dillards. Gene Clark is perhaps the most underrated songwriter of the 1960s and this could very well be his finest post-Byrds moment. Featuring help from fellow Byrd Chris Hillman, future Burrito Brother "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow, and future Burrito/Eagle Bernie Leadon, this is an absolutely essential piece of L.A. country-rock history, not to mention an out and out masterpiece. Clark was a demon who wrote like an angel, and at this time he was on a roll, although he kept composing wonderful songs till quite close to his death in 1991.
To say that Douglas Dillard has been to the bluegrass what Eric Clapton has been to rock may be short-changing Dillard. With the ability to play at unbelievable speeds while preserving melody and presenting his own personality, Dillard's 5-string playing stands out even in comparison with the likes of Earl Scruggs and Bela Fleck. Dillard's prior recordings of Foggy Mountain Breakdown and Dueling Banjos, for example, are mind-blowing. But the star of this show is former Byrd Gene Clark, whose Beatlesque melodies combined with Dylanesque lyrics and incredibly emotive vocals (all wrapped in a genuine rural twang) took country-rock to a new creative level. Bernie Leadon's superb contributions as (lead) guitarist, as well as with harmony vocals and help with the songwriting, are a clear indication of why the Eagles would become so successful in the following decade. The foundation of the Eagles was laid here, with superb singing and songwriting, and with virtuoso musicianship. The group was rounded out by Don Beck on dobro and David Jackson on acoustic bass, both excellent bluegrass musicians. Former Byrd Michael Clarke was added to the group to play drums on a few tracks. Andy Belling adds some fascinating harpsicord and fellow Byrd, Chris Hillman, guests as well...
