Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +22,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.

Quite scarce, CLEAN, British original 1972 release

Babe Ruth's 1972 album was a surprise hit and welcome release on the UK based "Harvest" label - fitting right in among the labels classics.

'First Base" consists of six rather lengthy tracks, often fusing Latin/Mexican accents with heavy Rock and some Blues, complex progressive moves  and Symphonic rock  influences.

Fronted by Jenny Haan. delivering her 'vocal power'style, fitting  perfectly in both hard rockers like "Wells Fargo" and "Joker" as well as softer tunes like "The Runaways" and "Black Dog" (rising with intense passages)

The backbone of Babe Ruth consists of bass, drums, Latin percussion, electric and acoustic pianos, organ and electric guitars. The band is obviously talented, yet Alan Shacklock's guitar playing deserves special mention, especially on "The Mexican" which is Babe Ruths high-point career effort -- a riviting track deserving several spins.

"King Kong" is a complex prog-driven feature originally by Frank Zappa's late 60's Mothers  Of Invention; ar more complex and much more experimental. Babe Ruth have taken the basic riff and taken it into an entirely different direction; their version is much more concise and articulate.

In mentioning "The Mexican" above, being a  song divided into two parts.  The first part being an original by the band and the second part being a rock version of Ennio Morricone's famous movie soundtrack "For A Few Dollars More". incorporating such an elegant style, it's no wonder "The Mexican" remains a huge cult favorite.

Other highlights are the opener "Wells Fargo" and the Symphonic "The Runaways". These first two tracks onside one immediately show the diversity of both the band as a whole and Jenny Haan's voice in particular. Alternating like this between up tempo songs, and softer passages  makes the album varied and never boring

 Wells Fargo (6:17)
The Runaways (7:27)
King Kong (6:44)

Black Dog (8:03)
The Mexican (5:49)
Joker (7:43)
