We make every effort to mail all orders out Friday of each week.  Keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two at most.   We also strive to keep our shipping and handling costs as close to actual charges as reasonable.

TO OUR REPEAT CUSTOMERSWe often get requests to hold orders to save on shipping.  We are happy to do thatPlease pay your current invoice within five days of auctions ending and IF YOU REQUEST we will hold your order and reflect a shipping discount for each additional order shipped together in the same parcel.   To receive continual shipping discounts, we will hold your orders as long as you want, but it is necessary to pay each invoice you receive to stay current.   Most importantly, we appreciate your business.

                   A Beard Of Stars

...USA - Blue Thumb records - bts 8818

BEAUTIFUL M- ((rare)) Original 1971 first pressing in thick gatefold cover PLUS contains the rare promo 45 "Ride A White Swan/ Is It Love that was included in very first run of the release 38 years ago. "Ride a White Swan" was the first hit by the then hippie folkpsych duo with it's remarkable catchy sound that still holds up quite well....

There was a big and obvious change to Tyrannosaurus Rex on their 1971 fourth album, A Beard of Stars, as Steve Took was replaced by Mickey Finn, with Marc Bolan remaining the true captain of the duo act as singer and songwriter. Of more significance was the change in the band's sound, moving somewhat away from his London underground hippie cult following into far more electric rock territory with much greater use of electric guitar, though Bolan's songs were still often grounded in the fairytale-like musings of his earlier work. Still Tyrannosaurus Rex was a ways off from his glam rock approach, but it was definitely more accessible than the relatively homespun elflike folk-rock of the earliest Tyrannosaurus Rex albums. It also made some effective use of organ and somewhat more pop-friendly, conventional tunes like "By the Light of the Magical Moon," "Elemental Child," and "A Daye Laye," though weirder items like "Wild Cheetah" and "Dove" bore a slight similarity to some of Syd Barrett's gentlest compositions.

Overall, "Beard Of Stars" sounds like the traditional Tyrannosaurus Rex style of acoustic guitars and bongoes framing Marc's fantasy-inspired lyrics, overlayed for the first time with electric guitars and bass. The addition of electricity made the songs more recognizably rock, and tracks like "Woodland Bop" and "Pavilions Of Sun" are exponentially more visceral than anything recorded previously, with bursts of fuzz and wah-wah guitar that explode out of the speakers. The more understandable vocals also help lilting ballads such as "A Day Laye" and "Dove" achieve classic status and presage tracks like "Life's A Gas" and "Broken-Hearted Blues". The most epic track remains the closing "Elemental Child", however, with its magnetic opening riff and closing instrumental fireworks; although still working on his technique, the ingenius construction of the solo, the raw heat of Bolan's personality and some simple but effective psychedelic production effects combine in highly dramatic crescendos that begin to form his future "electric wizard" image in spectacular style.
