     This auction is for THREE (3) MAD MAGAZINE RELATED VINYL RECORD LP ALBUMS:  Musically MAD...MAD Twists Rock 'n' Roll...Fink Along With MAD.  I play-tested all three albums in full, and I believe they are all mono editions.  Details of each individual release follows below. 

     I'm sure a lot of us were sad to learn of the ultimate demise of our beloved MAD magazine after sixty-two years of publication.  It's time to relive those heady days by listening to these three albums and crying our eyes out!

1.     MUSICALLY MAD -- This is worth it just for the classic "What -- me worry?" cover.  Released in 1959 on the RCA Victor Record label, catalogue number LPM-1929.  I can see why RCA dropped subsequent MAD releases.  This album was more for the "adult" listener, and definitely NOT aimed at teenagers!  You would have to know something about the classics.   Most of this is instrumental music, with a few cuts featuring some speaking parts.

     The cover is in (at least) VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS condition (pic #2).  NO seam splits.  There are some very fine scratches and just the barest hint of ringwear on the front cover.  The tiniest of blunts on the bottom left and top right corners.  There are a couple of minor slick creases (you wouldn't know if I didn't point them out); one between Alfred's nose and upper lip (pic #3), and the other at the left end of his wonderful grin.  On the back cover (pic #4), there is a small brown discoloration in the bottom left quadrant, and some minor black ringwear.  Hey!  The record is sixty years old!  You should be so lucky...

     The album is in VERY GOOD condition (pic #5).  NO skips, and really no pops to hear.  It has definitely been played though.  You can see some light paper scuffs on side one, and some small scratches here and there on both sides.  There is surface noise to be heard, but it is not overwhelming, and for whatever reason, it gets less as the tracks go on.

2.     MAD "TWISTS" ROCK 'N' ROLL  --  This was released in 1962 on the Big Top Records label, catalogue number 12-1305.  Now THIS is what we remember!  Songs are parodies of what was popular at the time.  Singers include Jeanne Hayes, Mike Russo, and The Dellwoods (I don't know if any of these were actual people or not).

     The cover is in VERY GOOD condition (pic #6).  There are NO seam splits.  There are pen marks between Alfred's eyebrows on the front cover (pic #7).  There is about a three inch crease across the bottom right corner (pic #8).  Some minor black shelf wear overall on the front cover, some small creases along the left edge, a blunt on the bottom left corner, and minor wear on the top right corner tip.  There is some light age browning on the back cover (pic #9).

     The record is in VERY GOOD condition.  Even though the record looks scratched up (pic #10), it actually plays pretty good!  There are a lot of light scratches, but only minor wear to be heard...nothing really, really heavy.  NO skips. There is more noticeable scratching to be heard on "I Saw Someone Else's Dandruff On Your Shirt" and "Agnes (The Teenage Russian Spy)".

3.     FINK ALONG WITH MAD  --  This was released in 1963 on the Big Top Records label, catalogue number 12-1306...and the MAD-ness continues!  This has the same performers as the previous album...except Alfred E. Neuman makes an appearance on "It's A Gas!"...HA!   This follows the same musical parody format as the "Twists" lp.  I see that one Phil Ramone engineered the album...the poor guy.  I guess he had to start somewhere and pay his dues before leading up Billy Joel, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.

     The cover is in VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS condition (pic #11).  This is a NICE laminted cover.  There is minor wear to the tips of the the bottom two corners.  NO seam splits.  There is a light crease in the bottom left corner of the back cover (only affects the back cover), and what looks like a small glob of white paint on the arm of Mike Russo's photograph (pic #12).  Some very light age browning on the back cover.

     The record is in VERY GOOD PLUS condition.  NO skips.  There is some very minor wear to be heard, mostly on side one, and the song "Contact Lenses" .  There is the occasional light pop or tic, but nothing loud.  Beware!  The last song on side two, "MAD Extra", is supposed to sound like that!

Cost of postage includes $ 1.75 for shipping materials (including cardboard mailer and polysleeve).  I separate the vinyl from the cover when shipping all opened LP's.

Record Grading:

MINT (10) Perfect! Still sealed albums are presumed MINT, but covers may not be. I will not grade any opened album as "mint", since there's obviously been some handling.

NEAR MINT (9.5) ---- Close, but one or two tiny flaws that do not impact play. Vinyl may have a barely visible scuff mark, but no scratches. Label is bright, clean and unmarked. Covers close to perfect with very minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident.

EXCELLENT (9) ----Disc plays near-perfect. There could be scuffs or a hairline scratch or two that does not impact play. Vinyl is bright and shiny. Label is clean and unmarked. Cover may have some slight corner creases or minor ringwear.

VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS (8) ---- Record handled and played occasionally, but very carefully. Very minor scratches and/or scuffs that should have little impact on the sound quality, or minor label imperfection---noted, but otherwise clean. VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS records may have some light surface noise during quiet passages or between tracks. Covers: one or two minor wear issues such as writing on cover, corner creases, some ringwear, minor staining, etc. (All noted).

VERY GOOD PLUS (7) ----The record has been cared for, but has some minor flaws. Light scratches and/or marks/scuffs that won't make a big impact. Light surface noise here and there, but nothing to overwhelm the listening experience. Covers may have a few minor defects (duly noted). Those who are looking for pristine-only might not be pleased, but most music fans would be happy to have a collectible album in this condition.

VERY GOOD (6)---- The record has been played often with some care, but also a little neglect. Record displays visible surface wear---scratches or scuffs that will cause some minor to perhaps occasionally moderate surface noise. Vinyl could be "dull" at this point and not "shiny', or still perhaps shiny, but then a little more scratched-up. Usually a cover is VG when one or two of these problems are evident: ring wear, seam splits, bent corners, loss of gloss, stains, etc. Most music fans would be happy to have a highly collectible album in this condition.

VERY GOOD MINUS (5) ---- Well-played with little luster and moderate surface noise, but skip-free. Lots of scratches/scuffs or fewer but more deeper marks. Several cover flaws will be apparent, but should not obliterate the artwork---seam splits, significant ring wear, tears, cuts, taping (all noted). I will only sell RARE "VERY GOOD MINUS" records.

GOOD (4) --- Pretty beat-up with lots of scratches, but not dead yet. Record should still appear not to skip, though it's possible it can. Surface noise is moderate to occasionally heavy. Seam splits are usually a bigger issue around this level with the records better off in a plastic sleeve. I only sell VERY RARE "GOOD" records. They are certainly "good enough" until another copy comes along.

GOOD MINUS (3) --- Even more beat with tons of scratches and LOTS of surface noise. Skips are possible, though I wouldn't intentionally sell a record that does. Given the right moment, fans could probably enjoy a GOOD MINUS record, but might also be irritated by it at times. I will only sell VERY VERY RARE "GOOD MINUS" records. Covers are hanging together by a thread (seams shot) but not intentionally defaced.

FAIR (2) ----FAIR records appear and sound lousy (significant surface noise, horrific scratches). I won't sell these, unless I find something that is SO INCREDIBLY RARE. Expect skipping or a very unpleasant listen. Covers may be defaced, seamless, stained beyond belief.

POOR (1) ---- Unlistenable and undisplayable.
