RSD 2017 RELEASE
Madness return with another Record Store Day Release -this time it's a 7” AA black vinyl with double-sided A3 poster. In 1986 Madness split up after a run of successful albums and a myriad hit singles. Their status as a British Institution was assured, but key songwriter and keyboardist Mike Barson left the band to pursue other activities and so Madness in their original form – much to the sadness of their fans - were no more. In 1992, however, the band reformed to perform at their very own festival, Madstock, and it immediately became clear that the public’s appetite for Madness was undiminished. The band were inspired to work together again and several more Madstocks followed in the 1990s, with a brand new studio album, Wonderful, released in 1999. It was a magnificent comeback album and fans of Madness’s more recent work will consider it a vital bridge between their work in the 1980s and their current output. The timing of Wonderful’s release meant the album was only ever released on CD, with vinyl being unfashionable at the time. This Record Store Day double A-side release celebrates two of its most majestic songs: the mightily menacing reggae skank that is Drip Fed Fred (featuring Ian Dury’s last vocal performance before his death), and the catchy-as-you-like Johnny The Horse. Neither have ever been released on vinyl before. The 7” black vinyl record comes with an embossed ‘ransom note’ sleeve and an A3 poster with lyrics to both songs.
