Hanky Panky is a song from album I'm Breathless ('90). Written & produced by Madonna & Patrick Leonard, it was developed from a line in the film Dick Tracy, where Breathless says to Tracy, "You don't know whether to hit me or kiss me". It is about a woman who enjoys being spanked by her partner. A jazz & swing song with a changing bassline, performed in an almost comical style. It caused controversy in Ireland because of its innuendo & racy lyrics, with women's groups deeming them as harmful. Madonna later clarified that the lyrics were intended as a joke. The song garnered acclaim from critics, many highlighting its lyrical content & was a commercial success, becoming a top 10 hit in many countries including Australia, Ireland, Italy, the UK & the USA, while topping the chart in Finland.
More is a song fromr album I'm Breathless ('90). It is the 2nd Sondheim number where Madonna recites materialistic-themed lyrics with irony, over a bouncy 2-beat with tap-dancing during an instrumental break. The track consists of syncopated chord structure, tempo changes & lyrical rhymes. The arrangement switches between slow & fast tempo, requiring proper enunciation by Madonna.
