Description
Up for auction is a very rare set of four (4) 78 RPM Red Raven Movie Records with the Carousel/ Zoetrope in its original Magic Mirror Movies box!
This unique childs toy utilized the carousel/ zoetrope to reflect the images below on the oversized illustrated label, featuring classic childrens' nursery rhymes/ songs, to create an effect similar to that of an sort of animated cartoon flip book!
The set was produced in the 1950s - very early 60s. The Red Raven 78s have Canadian Pat. of 1961 , Made by the Magic Mirror Movies Company, New Canaan, Conn. The bottom of box notes it as being Made In The USA by Spear Products Company out of Orange, NJ. , box by Mannkraft Corporation, Newark, NJ with a "MM2".
Top of box is stamped as "RC-4 Magic Mirror 4 Movie Records".
Condition:
Box is in overall good condition cosidering its age, with some marks from old tape that is no longer there, two staples protruding on top, a few small tears, a small area of light soiling / discoloration on bottom bottom of box. Box is still very firm and functional (please look at photos and I think you'll agree!).
Records were tested out on a portable player that does have 78 rpm function -- one of which is shown as an example (photos 6-8), but does, of course, not do it proper justice (see youtube videos )!
Records do have some mostly light scratches. All records played through with no skips. Plays and sounds well. All records are free of any writing!
Carousel reflects the images just fine!
Condition of Carousel is in overall very good condition, with some moderate wear.

M-1 / M-2 : Tootles The Tug / The Little Red Engine (on deep , almost violet ,red)
M-3 / M-4 : Old MacDonald Had A Farm / Little White Duck ( on yellow / purple splattered)
M-13 / M-14: Mary Had A Little Lamb / Three Blind Mice (on yellow/ purple splattered)
M-15 / M-16 : Three Little Kittens / Little Bo-Peep (on green)
Definitely a very nice complete set of this rarity still in its original box and is sure to please the collector --- Don't Miss Out!!
